Introduction

Presentation

Pink circular film-coated tablets. Each tablet contains spiramycin and metronidazole in an inert carrier.
Three strengths are available:
STOMORGYL 2: Each tablet contains 46.9 mg spiramycin of standard potency (3,200 IU/mg), and 25 mg metronidazole.
STOMORGYL 10: Each tablet contains 234.4 mg spiramycin of standard potency (3,200 IU/mg), and 125 mg metronidazole.
STOMORGYL 20: Each tablet contains 469 mg spiramycin of standard potency (3,200 IU/mg), and 250 mg metronidazole

Uses

For the treatment of periodontal and related oral conditions in dogs and cats.
Metronidazole has antimicrobial activity against most anaerobes, including Bacteroides, Fusobacterium and spirochaetes. Spiramycin has a therapeutic spectrum including Gram-positive aerobes such as staphylococci, streptococci and Bacillus, but also including anaerobes such as Actinomyces, Clostridium and Bacteroides. Antimicrobial synergy has been shown in vitro for many of these organisms.

Dosage & administration

By oral administration. For dogs and cats, 23.4 mg spiramycin and 12.5 mg metronidazole/kg bodyweight, once daily for 5 to 10 days.
STOMORGYL 2
1 tablet/2 kg bodyweight once daily for 5–10 days.
STOMORGYL 2 is the most suitable for use in cats.
STOMORGYL 10
1 tablet/10 kg bodyweight once daily for 5–10 days.
STOMORGYL 20
1 tablet/20 kg bodyweight once daily for 5–10 days.

Contra-indications, warnings, etc.

Do not use in animals with a known hypersensitivity to spiramycin or metronidazole.
Do not break or crush the tablets.
For animal treatment only.
In case of accidental ingestion obtain medical advice if needed. Wash hands after use. Should direct skin contact occur, wash affected area. Should accidental eye exposure occur, flush the eyes immediately with water and seek medical attention if needed.

Pharmaceutical precautions

Do not store above 25°C. Store in a dry place. Protect from light.
Packaging should be disposed of in the household refuse. Unused product should be returned to a veterinary surgeon or pharmacist for disposal in accordance with any guidance from an appropriate waste regulatory authority.
Keep out of reach of children.

Further information

STOMORGYL should not be used concurrently with other antibiotics of the macrolide group.
Safety in pregnant dogs and cats has not been demonstrated.
